EMOI Donates Books, Lab Equipment To Schools In Aceh.
Banda Aceh ( Berita ) : Exxon Mobil Oil Indonesia Inc (EMOI) has donated 3,424 books and 318 labaratory equipment to schools in North Aceh, Nangroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD), under the United School Program.
Spokesman for Samporena Foundation, Agatha Simanjuntak, said here Thursday that the program is a partnership program between EMOI and Sampoerna Foundation (SF) which has been carried out in three schools — SMAN (senior high school) 1 Syamtalira Aron, SMAN 1 Tanah Luas and SMAN 1 Matangkuli.
The books consisted of more than 1,500 copies of 52 titles of text books and more than 1,800 copies of 551 titles of fiction and non-fiction books to complement the book collections at each school library.
Some 318 items of laboratory equipment were also donated to complement the chemical, biology and physic laboratories.
Only 1.60 percent of senior high schools in Aceh have libraries and 1.65 percent of senior high schools have laboratories. Meanwhile 65.94 percent of schools in the country have libraries and 85.69 percent laboratories.
The number is still far below the ideal level as according to the Government Regulation No.19/2005 about the educational national standard, every school must have their own laboratory and library.
"The figure in Aceh which is far below the Indonesian figure is a proof that the condition is causes worry," she said.
Laboratories and libraries are important to improve school quality. EMOI has a strong commitment to improving the quality of the three schools by complementing their libraries with more books to arouse the students' interest in studying, she said. The complement Laboratory equipment was also expected to raise the students' enthusiasm to conduct chemical, biological and physics experiments, she said. ( ant )
