Betting On Original Composition, TESL Student Wins 'Projek Video Malaysia'
PETALING JAYA, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- Betting on the music video from his original composition, a student, Farahis Nur Azreen Mohd Ramli won herself a jackpot when the video bagged the first prize in the inaugural 'Projek Video Malaysia' (PROVIM 2016) today.
The music video titled 'Sejuta Cinta' was produced by her and four other friends who were clueless on the video's submission, said the 23-year-old.
The final year bachelor degree student in Teaching English as Second Language at Universiti Putra Malaysia said, the video with the theme of unity was earlier produced as a special assignment in her class.
"We produced the video last June. I, as the song composer, and two others sang the song, while another two produced the full video.
"I decided to try my luck by submitting the video which indeed coincided with the theme of the competition without telling my other friends. However, after winning, they were all excited and happy," she told reporters at a ceremony to celebrate the winners, here, today.
The win saw Farahis Nur Azreen taking home RM8,000 in cash, handed over by Deputy Group Managing Editor of News and Current Affairs, Media Prima Berhad (MPB) Television Networks Datuk Manja Ismail and i-Berhad executive chairman Tan Sri Lim Kim Hong.
Also celebrated in the ceremony were second place winner Mohammad Salam Jumiran, 30, Aiman Khalid, 32, and Mohd Ibnu Zaid Ithin, 30, through their video titled 'Cintaku Malaysia' and third place winner, Winston Lim Choon Yee, 19, and Kelson Tan Khai Hsien, 19, with their video titled 'MERDEKA59 - Love and Unity'.
Group Managing Editor, News and Current Affairs Division, MPB Television Networks, Datuk Seri Mohd Ashraf Abdullah in his speech said the competition was launched to inculcate the spirit of unity and nasionalism among Malaysians, especially the youths.
He said through the competition, every participant had the opportunity to translate their hopes and aspirations towards the country via the camera lens.
The videos submitted in the competition were uploaded in the MPB news programmes Facebook such as Buletin TV3, Berita TV9, NTV7edition and 8TV Mandarin News, before they were judged by the 'like' submissions in the Facebook and by professional judges.
The competition was organised by the Digital Unit, News and Current Affairs Department of MPB in collaboration with i-Berhad.
