Govt's Energy Saving Movement targets 20 Cities.Jakarta, (Antara) - The government's energy saving movement launched on Sunday targets 20 large cities in 11 provinces in the country, Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said has stated.
"The 20 cities are biggest electricity consumers," the minister said in a written statement here on Sunday.
The 20 cities are Medan of North Sumatra, Pekanbaru of Riau, Batam of the Riau Islands, Padang of West Sumatra, Palembang of South Sumatra, Lampung of Lampung, Jakarta, Bogor of West Java, Depok of West Java, Tangerang of Banten, Bekasi of West Java, Cilegon of Banten, Bandung of west Java, Yogyakarta, Semarang of Central Java, Sidoarjo of East Java, Surabaya of East Java, Denpasar of Bali, Makassar of South Sulawes and Balikpapan of East Kalimantan.
Minister Sudirman launched the 10-Percent Energy Saving National Movement in Jakarta on Sunday and held a campaign along Jalan Thamrin from his office building to Hotel Indonesia Traffic Circle.
The 10-percent energy saving movement is a government program launched to save energy consumption by 10 percent by all energy consumers.
"This movement is a national action. The target of this movement is to cut energy consumption by 10 percent," the minister said.
He said the campaign would continue to be echoed through dissemination of energy saving labels and use of energy saving electricity appliances.
The government will continue to optimize the role of energy service companies, generate the movement of the country's energy saving motivator (Peta) and include national energy saving campaign in the school curriculum of the basic education.
Based on data at the state-owned electricity company PLN,the energy sold to consumers in 2014 totaled 200 TWh, of which 93 percent or 187,175 TWh were consumed by household subscribers, industries and businesses.
Sudirman said that his ministry has also issued a ministerial regulation on Energy Service Company (ESCO) which is a partnership between the government and industry to realize energy conservation.
"There is no word 'late' in the energy saving campaign vocabulary so that the movement will become a better life-style for a better, clean and even development in Indonesia," the minister said.(*)
